How to apply online

Follow these steps in order. Only the official portal is valid.

  1. Go to rrbapply.gov.in and create an account. If you made one for an earlier RRB CEN, log in with the same details. Mobile number and email cannot be changed later.
  2. Verify your identity with DigiLocker or Aadhaar. Other photo IDs lead to stricter checks at every stage.
  3. Choose one RRB and set your preference order for zones and posts. The choice is final.
  4. Fill in your details exactly as in your 10th certificate (name, parents’ names, date of birth).
  5. Take a live photo on a plain white background. No pre-existing photo is uploaded.
  6. Upload your signature as a JPG/JPEG of 30 to 49 KB, minimum 140 × 60 pixels, in black ink and running handwriting.
  7. SC/ST candidates who want a free train pass upload their certificate as a PDF under 400 KB.
  8. Choose your exam language: English, Hindi or one of 13 regional languages.
  9. Pay the fee and keep a copy of the submitted form and your registration number.
Do not wait for the last day. Heavy traffic is common in the final days, and RRBs are not responsible for failed submissions. Submitting more than one application disqualifies you.

Selection process

Two computer-based tests decide your merit.

The recruitment has three stages: CBT 1, CBT 2 and then document verification with a medical examination. Selection is purely on merit. RRBs can add more tests if needed.

StageWhat happens
CBT 1Screening test, common for all four posts. Normalised marks are used for shortlisting.
CBT 2Candidates shortlisted at 15 times the community-wise vacancies of the RRB, based on CBT 1.
Document verification and medicalCandidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1), RRB-wise, based on CBT 2 merit.
Empanelment and postingBased on merit, post preference, medical fitness and vacancies. RRBs only recommend names; appointment is issued by the railway.
